Issue # 001 - SUDDENLY! A Wild Thing Appears! [Action]

Falling dreams are normal. You lock up with a start in your bed whenever you hit the ground, blink up at the ceiling before rolling over and going back to bed. Or you wake up mid fall, hit the carpet, groan, then climb back in to fall asleep again. Or try to. They're universal. If you can fall or fly or know of the concept- you can have a falling dream.

Ben Grimm has flying dreams, most often. Not the ones where you sail along in the middle of nowhere in nothing but your pajamas- flight dreams of controls and cockpits and the thrill of the test. Pushing a carefully crafted machine to the limit and then some. Twisting mid air and hitting the highest peak before plummeting down with all the weight of gravity wrapping around his gut and giving it a solid yank. That's his kind of falling dream.

Normally when he has them, he wakes up when he hits the ground.

Waking up mid fall is odd.

Waking up literally mid-air?

A revolt'n development.

He can't see or hear past the rush of wind, can't really get a good look at the ground beyond an impression of trees, houses, water way out over to the side. No sign of Reed, Sue, or Johnny. Nowhere soft to land either.

"Aw $%#@%!"

The landing's rough. He's had rougher, but he thinks he skips a few times. Barrels through a few trees. Clips a building, glances off a roof somewhere. Lands in...he has no idea. But the wall shears open like tissue paper and he finally rumbles to a stop, swearing in a low, gravely voice.

"...hate when that happens."

The Malnosso seem pretty confident. And more than a bit nutty.

I'm kind of hoping this is a one time deal. Not sure how I'm supposed to do my job if I keep getting zapped to other realities.

It's all kind of new to me. I wake up here and everyone's telling me I'm some kind of superhero.

[He raises an eyebrow at Sue.]

Well, maybe y'are. Maybe y'not. Beyond being a good shot and what y'can do it's more of a mindset. Takes time.

[And yeah, he's groaning.]

Awman, that freak? That wasn't fun at all.

Clint, he was some weird alien that collected unique life-forms. We count, apparently.

[She shrugs]

Heh, he liked it even less when Johnny melted the cage.

I guess. This is nothing I ever signed up for.

[But as for the rest of the conversation...]

Okay, that is creepy.

[The exploration? Yeah. The rest of it?

Not really. He doesn't regret it but...things for another day.]

Eh, one of th'top five I'd say.

I know Stark and the Captain in my world kind of did.

But I'm curious now. You deal with villains every day... the big showy kind I mean. Makes human traffickers and drug cartels look pretty mundane.

That liv'n equation- [He counts them out on one hand.], Doom in his new armor, Th'Mad Thinker, and Annihilus.

[He shakes his head.]

Mundane stuff still needs do'n. We just get caught up in th'bigger stuff while explor'n.

Really? Mad Thinker? Heh, I'd say Doom, Mephisto, Annihilus, and I definitely agree on the equation. That thing was weird.

[Sue nods at Clint]

Yea, Ben's right. We don't...deal with stuff like that, thats more something for SHIELD and SWORD, Spider-Man, or Cap an his team. We tend to deal with the more cosmic, weird stuff.

Creative names they've got there.

[Wouldn't it be easier to do evil if you just went by the name Frank and pretended to be a normal person for the most part?]

Guess I'm just a typical SHIELD agent then.

Let me guess, he has the powers of a spider and is not very good at coming up with names?

Get this Polly. Mephisto? The literal devil. Now that's fun times.

[He shakes his head and follows along.]

Spidey's not parta yer world either? Man. Y'miss'n out on all the fun people.

Yea. And Doom is actually his name. His given, family name. Victor Von Doom.

[She laughs at that]

Well they have Thor, I guess that counts for something. And Hulk.

Tell me, you guys live in a sci-fi B-movie, right?

No-one real is named Doom.

[As for the devil... yeah, he's not touching that one.]

Thor, Banner, the Captain, Stark and Tasha, uh, Black Widow. And me. Apparently.

Awman. Bruce is great for a rumble. Except...well. Y'know. Collateral damage. Great guy under it all though. Mean poker face.

No, he really is named Doom. He's from Eastern Europe.

[Because that explains all of it]

Yea. He's a sweet guy underneath it all.

At least his advertising is accurate.

I don't know him well. Just what's in his file and some surveillance me and Nat did on him a while back. Not the best way to get to know someone.

He's his own advertisement. Doom this, Doom that. S'a pain in th' @$$. Won't ever shuddup.

[He shrugs and starts looking along the shelves, wait'n for Sue to point out what she needed.]

I recommend it. Bruce is always a nice guy, fun t'talk to. He gets...stuff.

[Him. Bruce has always gotten him real well.]

[Sue laughs and pushes open the door to the grocery]

Villains always seem to want to monologue. I don't get it.

[Loki had been like that too. Clint can think of a half dozen ways they could've got out of the research facility in half the time.]

Maybe I'll have time here, or even when I get home. Doubt he's planning to stick around though.

Y'never know.

[He shrugs and holds the door open with a hand, ducking down to scuttle in sideways.]

Blam'n tiny doors.

[And she's gathering up chicken and stuff to go with it.]
