History:

In Luceti:
  • He crash landed in the village, making a nice Thing Sized Crater and proceeded to wreck MCU Loki's house, assuming it was his Loki. He was mistaken. It began a friendly antagonism between them that lasted for the duration of Ben's stay in the Village.

  • He acclimated quickly to the quirks of this particular fishbowl and settled in as resident uncle/genre savvy mentor type to those both from his world (Billy Kaplan, Teddy, Little Loki) and not (MCU Clint Barton, Steve Rogers, Tony Stark).

  • Bored, he antagonized Loki via anonymous poetry (because it'd be funny) and kicked off a prank war when he pushed one too many buttons.

  • Shortly afterward the citizens of the village were called into a draft where they had to contend with zombies. As drafts were handled like a lottery, inclusion was random. Ben wasn't called to fight and had to stay home and wait for the fallout. He prepped his floor mates (Clint, Billy, Little Loki, Teddy) as best he could and set back to wait. During the draft both MCU Steve Rogers & Little Loki died.

  • One week later when Steve and Little Loki returned Ben Grimm offered his unique brand of condolences (food and an offer to talk or not as needed). Little Loki's death hit him hard as an uncle, reminded of Franklin. Steve's also stuck with him as he'd gone through the same thing for similar reasons. They talked it out, Ben offering support.

  • Loki magics Ben in front of the village fountain in his sleep, zaps away his clothes, and broadcasts it as revenge for the earlier poetry pranking. In response Ben drops a giant water balloon of orange jello on Loki, the prank war culminating in Ben enlisting Steve Rogers to help him with one last prank. Drinking Loki under the table, after which they shaved Loki's head. Something like a truce is called afterward.

  • Billy Kaplan asks about The House of M, forcing Ben to relive some unpleasant memories. Ben explains what he knows and remembers, but it's awkward.

  • After a few more months of settling in and playing uncle to the younger heroes of a different reality, Ben Grimm returns home.

Personality:

Benjamin Grimm is a stubborn, smart mouthed, loyal, somewhat gruff but eternally dependable man. While Reed is the mind of the Fantastic Four and Sue the Heart, Ben's more of the anchor of the group. He understands what it is that they are, what they stand for, and how they all relate to one another and does his part to see that his family stays safe and sane. He knocks Reed upside the head when he can, keeps the man fed when Sue's busy with the kids, and drags Johnny down by the ankles when he starts to fly too close to the sun. Ben has his feet set firmly into the concrete of his native Brooklyn and doesn't mind pulling the rest back down they they start to stray. He loves what they do, the exploration, the learning, seeing new dimensions, new worlds, and has come to enjoy boxing with the Hulk or wrestling with Hercules.

It's bizarre, it's surreal, but it's what Reed does. What his family does. And Ben's more than happy to tag along to keep Reed alive and Sue smiling. There's terribly little he won't do to keep his family happy, even if it means continuing to take the bullet whenever an opportunity arrives to give him back his human form, whenever Reed offers to take that cosmic power and shape from him so that Ben can have his old life back. Grimm's stubborn and selfless in it; no one else should have to be what he is. He doesn't always like it, some days it lays him down low and he doesn't even want to get out of bed in the morning, but it's his power. His gift, his burden. No one else should have to live with it. So he does, without too much complaint. It's a gift that allows him to fight and protect not only his family, but the people of New York, of Yancy Street and of the Earth or any other group of people that are hard up wherever it is that Reed's taken them. His selflessness and determination to stay with his family, to keep them happy and safe has Ben giving up a paradise in Heaven. The Heaven. With a capital H.

He fights off Doom when possessed, takes a hit he knows that will kill him just to take that man with him. And doesn't blame Reed for pulling the trigger. Ben knows the risks of their actions, knows he's not entirely invulnerable even with his rocky hide and increased durability, and fights anyway. Puts himself between the worst of the danger and Johnny, Reed, or Sue whenever he can. He heads into a fight first to gauge how bad the brawl is going to be and pushes through no matter how high the stakes or powerful his foe. Sometimes it's business. Sometimes he's gleeful. A chance to work out his frustrations on an acceptable target is always an excellent change of pace, since he can't very well spar with anyone. Going toe to toe with Thor or the Hulk always has him smiling- getting a change to thrash Doom brings a darker, more vicious sort of satisfaction.

Exploration and fighting aside, Ben's settled into the life the Fantastic Four leads fairly well. He's laid back and has a flair for the more obvious means of sarcasm. He takes particular pleasure in squabbling with Johnny and getting involved in the odd exchange of pranks; he's not at all without a sense of humor. Though it an be on the crude side. He's photocopied his butt to mail to Bill Gates along with a letter once he's made aware of his substantial fortune. Which he does, admittedly, lord over Johnny and indulge in for a few days. Even the fancy suits and attention he gets from wearing 'rocks' as he calls them, doesn't sit well after a day or two. He knows what people are really looking at, and why.

Ben abandons the suits other than for special occasions after that, sticking to the casual wear or the suit of unstable molecules provided by Reed. His innate disgust with himself had him frustrated, even if it was more due to his sense of integrity that he abandoned the grandeur of a more wealthy lifestyle. He's a simple man with simple tastes. Hot dogs, a good beer, football, family, and the good fight. He has his dark days, his bright days, and as long as he has his family? The brighter days outweigh the dark.

Abilities:

  • Extreme durability, significantly increased strength, sensory resilience, stamina, and lung capacity due to his rock like body

  • Blackbelt in Judo, Jujitsu, Seasoned boxer, street brawler, and CQC military hand to hand training

  • Skilled pilot

  • Genre Savvy, he's been doing the hero gig for awhile and tends to know how these things go.

  • Multiple degrees in advanced engineering prove that while he's no Reed Richards, he's no slouch either. Most of his focus is on aerospace and flight engineering but he can collaborate with Tony Stark and keep up as often as not.

While he can and has punched holes in buildings, bunkers, and tanks- Ben won't be able to cause harm to the structural integrity of the ships. It's not something he'd want to do anyway because that'd be a stupid idea, but even in a fit of frustration he won't be able to break anything important on the ships that functions to keep it flying or the crew safe.
